Appointments

** Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online appointments have been temporarily suspended.  All GP appointments are currently triaged by our Reception Team and with joint agreement with the patient, the most appropriate type of appointment is selected, whether it be by telephone, video or face to face consultation.    We are mindful of our patients wishes to be seen at the surgery, whilst also making sure that we all still remain safe**

“Getting in touch with us

We are aware there are significant problems getting through to us on the phone. We are sorry this is the case and would like to explain a little about why that is.

Many GP surgeries across the country are in a similar position. We understand how frustrating it can be for it to take longer than normal.

We would like to reassure you we are working hard to resolve the situation.

There are three things that are challenging us:

  • There has been an unprecedented post-lockdown increase in demand. Part of this is because many of our patients have been managing health issues themselves rather than contacting their doctor over the last year and some hospital procedures and appointments have been necessarily delayed.  As confidence in general is returning, patients are now quite rightly contacting us.
  • We have been heavily involved in delivering the country’s largest ever vaccination campaign.
  • We have had to change the way we work to keep things safe for our patients and our staff.

What can you do to help?

  • Choose well – can the pharmacy help your symptoms? Call 111 if you are unsure which sort of treatment you need. You can also go online 111.nhs.uk
  • Download the NHS app.  Whilst you are currently still unable to book/cancel appointments for our surgery, you are able to order your repeat prescriptions.
  • Use our online consultation system (eConsult), if you are able to –  you can access this via our home page.
  • Cancel appointments you no longer need.

It’s useful to remember our teams are on the front line and see both the best and the worst of us all. They work incredibly hard to help patients navigate the system, but may not be able to offer you exactly what you want at all times.

Please be patient and courteous, they want to find the best solution as much as you do.

We are grateful for your understanding.

GP partners and practice manager.”

Appointments

For appointments please ring 01634 360486 or 01634 377817. Urgent cases are seen on the day. If your condition is non-urgent you can expect to see a GP within five working days although you may have to wait longer if you want to see a particular GP.

If you don’t need an appointment within five working days you have the option to book up to two weeks in advance. You can normally expect to see a nurse within one week.

Tell us if you require a nurse chaperone or someone else to accompany you during an examination, or if you need a private room to discuss any matters.

Online Appointments

Booking an appointment online is currently suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic.   The surgery continues to take these measures in order to triage the appointment requests and determine the most appropriate consultation type.     We do however offer our patients the option of doing an online consultation request called ‘eConsult’.   Patients are able to access ‘eConsult’ from the home page of our website.   When accessing the eConsult platform, patients are asked a series of questions to determine the best course of action.  If contact with the GP practice is the most appropriate route, the request will come through directly to the surgery for the team to action accordingly.   The time in which the surgery should respond is determined by the nature of the patient’s problem or request.

Extended Hours

For patients who have difficulty accessing the surgery during core opening hours we do offer extended opening for both routine and urgent appointments on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 18:30 – 19:30. These can be booked in the usual manner by contacting the surgery during normal hours. The surgery will appear closed during these times but an intercom system will operate to release the door for you upon arrival.   If you are unable to make your appointment, you will need to cancel this either online or whilst the surgery is open.

The out of hours service will still operate during this time. Please note that during these extended sessions you will not be able to access reception for the booking of routine appointments or to request prescriptions or test results. You will need to call back during our core opening times.

Improved Access Appointments

You are now able to book an appointment to see a GP in the evenings or weekends at one of the new Primary Care Hubs within the Healthy Living Centres across Medway.

Primary Care Hubs are funded by Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (http://www.medwayccg.nhs.uk) as part of the national NHS Improving Access to General Practice Programme.  The service has been developed to improve the availability of services you would normally get from your GP practice.

You must book an appointment to be seen at the hub – appointments need to be booked in the same way as you would book usually, with your own GP Receptionist Team.

This service is provided by Medway Practices Alliance (MPA), a federation of Medway GP practices, created to enhance the delivery of healthcare services to over 300,000 patients in Medway.

You must have booked an appointment through your GP surgery as walk-in appointments are not available.

IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT ONE OF THE HUBS AND YOU NEED TO CANCEL

PLEASE RING THE HUB CANCELLATION LINE:  01634 335033

Telephone Appointments

You can speak to the doctor on the telephone if you need urgent advice or he or she will ring you at an agreed time on the telephone number you have given.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly. Our nurses are available every day between 08:30 – 11:30 and 16:00 – 18:00

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Please remember, you can help us by:

  • Being on time for your appointment
  • Letting us know if you need to cancel your appointment
